Martha Krempel

I grew up in Yorkshire, my first job as a teenager was disbudding chrysanthemums in my local market garden centre, and I have been smitten with plants ever since.

Design and production has been my vocation for over 20 years, with Art and Architecture influencing the aesthetic choices in my designs. At university I studied Sculpture for 4 years and developed a particular love for constructing large pieces in metal conceived to sit within the landscape. I continued making art whilst working in a London gallery and after a brief period working with Tom Dixon I moved into designing furniture and lighting for bars and restaurants in London. I then set up Big Sky studios, a progressive service-focused high-end photographic studio where no set design was too difficult. After seven years I sold my shareholding and for a few years designed interiors before following my heart and designing gardens took precedence.

I have been involved in garden design for over eight years, mainly in London and the South West, and have recently attended the London College of Garden Design at Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew for a year long intense professional development course, passing with distinction.

Since graduating in July 2014 I have been commissioned to design gardens in Queens Park, West Hampstead, Kensal Rise and Chelsea as well as scenes for a Valentino shoot for their Red Spring Summer 2015 campaign where I recreated the spring / summer look of a meadow, and worked with flowers, grasses and roses simulating may flowering to during the wettest October in years.
